If a party, reception, meeting or special function is what you're after, where you can fit 150 revelers into a grandiose space of 7,000 feet, and then Grand Buffet of Pomona, California is your destination. Opened in 2006 in a busy thoroughfare where the local Asian and Mexican population mingles, owner Yulu Weng has turned his restaurant into a top draw for locals and businessmen and women whipping around the freeways around the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley. It was chosen as a finalist in the category of “Top 100 Buffet Restaurants” at the 6th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA awards ceremony held in Las Vegas, this January.

As a buffet restaurant variety and affordability are the main features. With hundreds of selections from Chinese American and sushi to authentic Chinese, customers can pony up to 8 buffet bars and have their pick. The most remarkable dishes are pure Chinese, according to owner Yulu Weng: Grilled Oysters with Black Beans and Steamed Codfish. The former consists of barbecue sauce, black beans, scallions and condiments create a piquant flavor. To keep the oysters fresh and clean, they are first boiled and then washed.

Of the Americanized Chinese dishes, Coconut Shrimp and Japanese Chicken are crowd pleasers. Seafood is another big hit with fresh oysters, shrimps, crab, scallops and mussels. As Pomona is close to Los Angeles, the selection of seafood is incredible.” Diversity is what any buffet restaurant strives for, but I value food quality most,” said Mr. Weng.
